People keep asking whether The Past Within is split screen. It's better than that: two devices, two different timelines, one mystery — and you genuinely cannot solve it alone. Here's how the setup works.
How the two-device co-op works
- You each need the game on your own device — any mix of iPhone, Android, tablet or PC works.
- One of you plays in the Past, the other in the Future — same story, different halves.
- Pick matching lobby symbols to sync up, then start describing what you see.
- Every puzzle needs information from both timelines — the talking is the gameplay.
Why there's no split screen
The whole design depends on you not seeing your partner's screen — the gap between what you each know is where the puzzles live. It's the purest example of the format we cover in games built for exactly two players.
Finished it?
Tick Tock: A Tale for Two runs on the same two-device magic, and Human: Fall Flat trades deduction for slapstick co-op. Browse the full puzzle games for two list for more.
